Regarding the thermic effects of food (ie carbohydrates taking about 15% of their calories to burn and protein up to 30%) are these figures reliable and approximately equal for all individuals? Or is there significant variation among individuals ie do some people metabolise different macros more or less efficiently than others?

TEF is figured into calories posted on labels already. Variations may differ from people who suffer from a health issue, but for the general public, not so much.
