just replaced my faulty heart rate monitor with this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerm/230%2F5624.htm

my question is used this at the gym to day and compared to the results from this and the gym equipment there was not much in data differance i.e calories burned ect...

had to enter weight, age in all machines.

today at the gym I burned 920 calories data from gym equipment
Stepper 360 calories (27mins), Cross Trainer 200 calories (15mins) & Treadmill 360 calories (31mins)

and Data from heart Rate Monitor was in Total 960 calories

basically would like to know what would the most accurate.

Thanks

you want accurate? you need to get a chest strap HRM like the Polar FT4 - and you need to only use it for steady state cardio

Those burns seem rather high to me - your weight, intensity, resistance will make a difference

was not specifically recommending the Polar it's just the one I have and I'm happy with it - there are many others on the market - some that are more accurate

for me, and my activity it's good enough

    OK sorry

do you plug in your gender, height, age, weight into it?

burns still seem awfully high to me

Then I don't know I'm afraid - I would half the calories you're getting from both to start with though

if it helps I'm 5'8 - around 160lbs - it takes me 14 minutes steady state (eg no HIIT) at resistance 17 out of 25 at between 6 and 9km/hr with a HR around 150 to burn 100 calories

you could take 50% of the burns - eat at that level for the next 6-8 weeks and judge against your actual weight loss - they're all just estimated numbers and it's what happens in your body that counts

forgot to mention that I was using polor FT4 up until yesterday and was getting abit more in reading dropped it and broke
my i'm 5.8, 224Ibs on all machines i do weigh loss programs treadmill incline 10 speed of 3.7mph, stepper intensity 18 speed 16mph, cross trainer level 10, speed 16

In my experience, HRMs are overly optimistic on the number of calories burned. I suspect it is because my max heart rate is higher than normal for my age.
