My little boy is graduating 8th grade tonight (I know, I know, it's only 8th Grade but... I am a crier. I cried when he went from diapers to undies, a crib to a big boy bed, etc. you get the picture) That out of the way, I remember graduation ceremonies, girls typically get flowers, my question is what on earth do you give a boy at the ceremony? I'm pretty sure if I handed my son a bouquet of flowers he would look at me like I am crazy. LOL! Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in Advance!

I have been crying for a day now. His teacher sent an email with "important graduation information" in it yesterday and that started a chain of tears. Haha! I went into the bathroom last night and his gown was hanging in there (to get the wrinkles out) and I cried for about 2 hours. I cried this morning when he left for his last day of 8th grade. I am a darn mess, I think I should not wear mascara and most definitely bring like 18 boxes of tissue.0

So it is a ceremony to celebrate passing the 8th grade and going to the 9th grade? They do cap and gowns now for passing the 8th grade?0

Yes, but I don't think it's all that new. I had an 8th grade graduation ceremony, and that was in 1994.

My grade school went from grades 1-8, and then high school from grades 9-12 was a in different building in a different city, so 8th-grade graduation was a big deal (1989). I think it's different in areas that have middle schools.

Well, at my sons 8th grade graduation last week it was gown only. I asked where his cap was and he said they don't get caps because "they can be used as projectiles" says the principal. I laughed a lot at that. Yes, still middle schoolers. But he had an entire huge ceremony with pomp and circumstance, speeches, diplomas, and about 2000 people.

My son goes to a school PreK - 8th Grade. But I went to a school that was just 6-8 and still graduated with cap and gown and it was a big deal.
