Hi- Tomorrow morning I have a doctor's appointment. I was told to not eat from midnight on. My question is this, may I drink Propel water or zero calorie water? Or is that not allowed?

I also want to know how to ask for an in-depth thyroid test? Not just the generic. Do you know what to ask for?

I wouldn't be drinking anything that contains anything extra. They're usually pretty clear in their instructions of what you can and can't drink. Usually clear liquids are ok, but I would think this is something you should be calling your doctor's office to clarify? That's what they're there for.

Generally, you should not drink anything that's not zero calorie and caffeine free. Some docs also like you to not drink artificial sweeteners.

I'm not sure what type of thyroid test you mean, but just ask. If you want something other than a blood test, then ask what else is available. This is person you are paying (directly or indirectly via insurance) to care for you. You should not be afraid to ask questions.

Water should be alright with fasting labs. I need to get bloodwork done every three months, and I have instructions on my lab orders to "eat or drink nothing but water for at least 12 hours prior to your test."

With the thyroid labs, the only ones that I have experience with are TSH, T3, and T4. I don't know if those are the very general thyroid function tests or the more in-depth ones.

You want to request a full thyroid panel.

ETA: If you're going in for some sort of internal scope, anything red/yellow/orange is off the table as well because it tends to look like blood through the scope :/

I wouldn't, as you want the test's to be as accurate as possible.

To play it safe, I would keep it to just strictly water.

For the thyroid test- what are you interested in testing for? Normally a Thyroid test will test TSH, T3, T4. A more indepth Thyroid panel would include Thyroid antibodies- which would be testing for a potential autoimmune disorder (Hoshimoto's )
