Leg workout tips

First day back at the gym. Going to start with the legs. Looking for some tips. I mostly stick to squats and the leg extension/curls machines. Need to mix in some new stuff. Any tips would be appreciated. Also need advice on recovery. I know I'm going to be sore tomorrow, I just want to be back to relatively normal by Monday. Thanks for the help.
