I weighted myself in at Boots today and it was saying i was 14 stone 2 pounds

Yet on my scale , it was 13 stones 11 pounds...

:/ How can they be so different , my scale is electric , the one at boots was the massive computer type one.

This has thrown me off hugely :/ I wanted my body fat as i was curious and my weight just popped up.

Should i be worried?

    No.

    The scales were calibrated differently

You took a poop in between

You drank a big glass of water in between.

    Etc
    etc
    etc

There will almost always be calibration differences between scales. Add to that weighing at different times of the day (I'm assuming you didn't weigh yourself in one place and then teleport to the other place within seconds), weighing after/before eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, etc. Plus naked vs. clothed vs. different clothes. Everything makes a difference.

I just thought with the technology at boots was more advanced scales , and the fact that all i had previous was scrambled egg on toast and a tall glass of water it wouldn't of made much of a difference. That was 3 hours after i had weighted myself

It was after i weighted myself in was when i ate lunch to :/

    Its got me all flustered.

5 lbs is an average day's fluctuation for most people.

Even with a 350 calorie breakfast and not much fluid? I mean i drink when i can sort of thing. I think that's whats causing me to be concerned , i barely ate or drank much. It was after i weighted in that i had some lunch. And there was a 2 to 3 hours gap between breakfast and me hitting the scales.

    *weighed.

    You had eaten.
    You had consumed liquids
    You had clothes on.
    You used a different scale.

It's a number on a piece of metal & plastic that no one else sees or cares about besides you and your doctor. Your self worth should never be tied to the number on the scale.

Weigh once a day, on the same scale, under the same conditions.

Eating a small meal does make a difference. Weight fluctuates throughout the day. I typically weigh 4 to 5 pounds more in the evening. Also, were you wearing EXACTLY the same clothes?

Also, most people weight themselves at home without shoes, and usually naked or in their underwear. Clothes can weigh 5-10 lbs easily, especially if you include shoes.

This morning weighed myself as soon as up, after I peed. 151. Weighed myself hour or so later, after I pooped, drank about 4oz of water and had not eaten. 154 on the same (reliable) scale. Meaningless

I'm always 3-5 pounds heavier at the doctor's office.

Take the reading that counts from the same scale, in the same place, at the same time of day, in the same state of dress or undress.

Ok , thanks for the replies all , i will try not to let this get to me , i always knew my weight would fluctuate during the day , just didn't expect it read 5 pounds higher on the machine is all. :/

The reason that weighing yourself once a week with the same clothes at the same time of day is a "rule" is because some people let the fluctuations mess with their heads. They're normal, natural, and nothing at all to worry about. I mean, think about it logically...how many pounds difference was between the two scales? And at 3500 calories per pound, did you eat thousands of calories in between the weigh ins? If not, then logically you didn't gain weight.

You could move your scale to a different location and get a different reading...

ive seen my weight fluctuate 10 pounds in a day and between scales. thats why my 'official' scale is my bathroom one, and i only 'officially' weigh once a week.

But what's the difference vetween weigh-ins on each scale? Did you go down on both, up on both, or stay the same on both? The difference between the two scales shoud be meaningless to you.

The key to interpreting that docket is that paragraph down the bottom, where they try to sell you a weight loss "programme". In other words, it would not at all surprise me if they jimmy their machines to read high, to improve sales.

Now that people have brought the attention of the weight loss program, it's true that I would give less importance to that weigh in.

But even if it wasn't the case, I would mainly focus on sticking to the trend in your weigh ins... So if in your scale you were X pounds, then after a few weeks you were X - 5 or 10, etc, then you know that you've lost weight. In the end your exact number does not matter as much as the trend you can see in your weight.

That body fat reading is potentially rubbish too...because scales are notoriously innaccurate so I wouldn't believe the numbers

Stick to your home scale under the same conditions each time eg first thing in morning, before you've eaten, after the loo and naked

You are way too strung out over this whole process. What you weigh on that scale compared to your home scale doesn't matter. Did you gain back all the weight you lost, just becasue that scale said something different? Did you lose all your gainz?
    No?
    Then relax.
You're WAY overthinking this whole thing. There's 0 chance you gained 5 lbs of fat in a few hours.

Drugstore chain. Think CVS or Walgreens.
