Some days I wish that humans didn't have to eat so often during the day... How awesome would it be if we only had to eat once a day?!
Maybe it's because I have so many digestion issues, but some days I just find eating tedious and almost stressful... especially when I unintentionally over-eat, it makes me quite distressed afterwards having to pull through the various symptoms that over-eating causes. I'm prone to mindless eating (such as eating in front of the TV or computer), it's something I need to work on... I wish I could be one of those people that only eat when they are hungry and savour every mouthful!
Anyone else ever feel this way about eating?

You sound like a friend of mine who has been doing the Soylent thing.
Personally, I've gotten good enough at preparing my own food that i look forward to my meals. Even if I eat the same thing over several days, I don't find it tedious. I've also started keeping snacks that are portioned in a way that it helps avoid mindless munching.0 -

What is Soylent? I hope it's nothing to do with Soylent Green!!!

Basically a "food replacement" drink. Personally, not something I've tried and not really interested in for a day-to-day thing. I did consider it as a "diagnostic" tool since you could theoretically measure out a nearly exact level of calories for a period of time.
Someone sent me a link to a podcast where the hosts tried it for a time. The big thing they noted: it gave them really bad gas...

Sounds even worse than not eating to me! I guess I just get fed up because foods that are 'safe' for me for a time can suddenly change and start giving me horrific issues. It's a never ending guessing game and no matter how 'clean' or simply I eat I still have issues.

I used to have digestion issues but now I take HCl tablets with some meals and I feel good. They took care of my acid reflux when I had it.0

Well, I hope you work it out. Focus on finding the foods that work best for you. Build a routine around those foods that fits within your calorie needs.
"Clean" or "not clean" foods are mostly a subjective and badly defined concept, so it may help to not get yourself too twisted trying to figure out what to eat based on that.0 -
Yep, but only because I'm stressed beyond belief right now (just graduated from grad school, leaving my current job shortly, doing a huge out-of-state move next month away from my family, and starting my first job as a real-life adult). My appetite is either non existant (making eating a chore), or I'm ravenous (making eating a lot easier).
At least on days when I don't have an appetite, eating more calorically dense items to hit my goal makes it much easier. I just try to be mindful of my goal for the day, and reaching/staying within it. But yes, I find it very tedious right now, haha.0 -

Not eating as such because I enjoy my food! But I do sometimes feel my whole day revolves around food. Plan meals, shop for food, put it away, prepare meals, clean up meals, prepare snacks, log food. Plus I have a tiny kitchen and two little ones so it can feel like a military operation getting varied balanced meals made. I wonder what I could get done in all that time if we all only needed to eat once a day!
As for the part about only eating when you're hungry and enjoying it - it can be learned but it is hard to break those habits. I'm working on that now. It sounds ridiculous but sometimes I'm honestly not sure whether I am hungry or just wanting to eat for pleasure, and it's really tricky to tell whether I'm full. But I figure it's something I need to re-learn for life. Babies can do it, so I know I can learn it too.0 -

I have had a lot of issues regarding food in my life. I have never found it tedious though, I love to eat.0

To be fair, they were using older formulations (pre-1.4). The makers have been working to solve the gas issue, and early word is that the newest formulation, 1.5, is much better in many regards, including that one.
I'm actually going to try Soylent for the first time as soon as my box arrives. I will have to let you know if I become a fart machine ... !

Even though I love to eat, I still find it tedious. Prepping and logging are pretty easy, but I stagger my food throughout the day so that I'm eating almost every 1.5-2 hours (I get full really fast nowadays) and sometimes it gets in the way.0

Always wanted a ring of sustenance.0

I went to boarding school for a bit and we were always being escorted to the cafeteria for mandatory feedings. That seemed tedious. I enjoy eating now, but I understand the feeling.0

Who says you cant?
I went through a good 12+ years where Monday - Friday were once a day eating, Saturday normally only liquid, alcohol calories ... followed by what I now refer to as Binge Sundays.
Planned a little better, I see once a day as no problem at all.

Do you have IBS? My Mom used to be plagued with this and I can share some of her strategies.
Re the mindless eating - what about if instead of a whole bag of something you just have a portion of food with you at the TV or computer? Having only the right amount makes it a lot easier to stop

Nope, I thoroughly enjoy food and eating. Like right now I'm sitting down to a late breakfast after a nice morning ride...some curried red lentils topped with a poached egg and cilantro, sauteed greens and some sliced fresh tomato...just a little bit of heaven on a plate there...0

Heh--I don't actually wish I had that issue, but had the same thought about it making weight loss/maintenance easy!
I really love cooking and eating food. Cooking after work or in the morning is relaxing for me, and so is eating, as well as a social/communal activity as much as possible. That's one reason 3 normal sized meals works better for me than lots of snacks--I enjoy creating and eating meals.0
