Gaining lean muscle

Hi Myfitnesspal community,
I'm fairly new to working out and supplement usage and I could use some guidance. I recently went to a nutrition store and they recommend a protein supplement and an amino acid supplement. He also recommended getting on a pre-workout. He also said that while taking all these supplement I'll need to consume more water than I currently do. Now therein lies the problem. I already drink about 96 fluid ounces a day and much more than that gives me a tummy ache. I can't be the first person to have this problem. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

You only "need" a protein supplement if you aren't getting sufficient protein from food. Still researching amino supplements myself, out of curiosity around my personal diet choices. And a pre-workout can provide extra energy, if you feel like you need it (but food/coffee/other things can work equally well). I am no expert, but think 96 oz of water a day is sufficient.0

Of course a nutrition store would recommend that you 'need' to take a bunch of supplements. But do you really? Do you struggle to hit your macros? What are your stats and goals?0

What are Macros?0

The building blocks of your food... protein, carbs and fat. When you set up your goals on MFP, it will have given you targets for each of these, as well as a calorie target.0
