Protecting my garage floor

I lift in my garage and, as of now, have just a plain concrete floor. I felt my grip slipping on my deadlift (245 lb) last night, and had visions of my weights falling and totally cracking the concrete. I was thinking of getting some puzzle mats to put down, but I'm unsure if they would really save the floor.

What do y'all do?

    Bumper plates.

If I didn't have bumper plates, I'd use a layer of plywood with horse stall mat on top.

Google "Crossfit home made lifting platform."

Would love bumper plates, but can't do that right now!

Some plywood might well help, with something on top... thanks.

I'm not planning on doing a lot of slamming the weights down type thing, but I do want to save the floor if I have a mishap!

Yep. the rubber on top to protect the weights. The plywood will distribute the force to reduce the chance of cracking. If you have to do just one thing, do 3/4 plywood. Foam mats won't really help.

Thanks. I think I'll give the plywood a try.
