So In the past few years I have some troubles with lower back pain, and the last time i had it was this time last year. Went to the doctor who said it was muscular and that loosing weight should help.Since then I've lost 20 pounds and it obviously helped cause the pain went away, trouble is its back. With a vengeance!!!!!!
Does anyone else suffer from back pain? What do you do to eleviate it? I've tried the simplest of stretches and excersises but its just too painful. I had plateaued anyway with my weight loss recently and now this pain is stopping me from the being able to go to the gym for my normal weekend
Having such a pity party here. Feeling so sorry for myself

Sorry to hear about your lower back pain causing problems. I also have had lower back problems. For years, I would get intermittent spasms. And any kind of manual labor made it sore a short time later (which caused me to walk over with a hunch).
My lower back issues have substantially improved ever since I started weight lifting. But the exercises that put some stress on the lower back were ones I did cautiously. I moved up in weight a bit slower than other exercises. I had a set back in mid-January, but I was back to normal by early March.
It's hard to specify what exactly worked, so I'll give you what I think were helpful.
1) Weight lifting - Dumbbell Deadlifts (eventually Barbell Deadlifts), Back Extension, Dumbbell Squats (eventually Barbell Squats) If you have the budget and time to hire a trainer, he or she can help you with getting the right form.
2) Stretching - In the shower, I would do slow bending over while the hot water was spraying right on my back. Before falling asleep, laying on the bed at night, I would bend my legs and pull my knees to my chest slowly, hold for a 4-5 seconds, then straighten my legs. Do this a few times.
3) An occasional massage by someone with a sports therapy type background.
I hope this is of some help. When I had tweaked my back, I felt so dejected. So I feel for what you're going through. But it will pass. Just a little bit of patience and gradual strengthening of that muscle, you will hopefully feel an improvement like I did.0
