Macros are carbs, fat and protein. Hitting your macros means you're close to your goals on those three.

If you're using MFP's default settings, aim to surpass your protein, hit your fat, and stay under your carbs. Many people also change their macros to better reflect what they need individually.

Macro nutrients are the 'major' nutrients to maintain a healthy diet, there are also micronutrients which are the vitamins and minerals that are absorbed from the foods you eat.

Fibre is also NOT a macro nutrient but rather a part of the Carb macro, sugar and fibre are a part of Carbs. It might be best if you look up what each nutrient is and how it works in your body if you want a full understanding and also you will get the opportunity to learn about different kinds of sugars (natural sugars are fibrous and have nutrients vs refined sugars that have been stripped), how different proteins are absorbed and used and how fat is stored and used in the body. Lots to learn from wikipedia for sure!

BMI is a useless number. This road map is a great place to start:

  • Its setting your daily goals. If your macros are 40/40/20. That means, carbs 40% of your daily calories, protein is 40% of your daily calories, and fat as 20% of your daily calories.
So if you hit 40/40/20, you hit your macros.

you don't need to hit macros... if your body is getting all the micros it needs. vegetarians can build bulk just like those who eat animal proteins. good videos to watch, Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, - Forks Over Knives, and Killer At Large... lots more but these hit it pretty well. I'm not saying go vegetarian... just know what your body needs.
  • THANK YOU ALL! I see the light finally on this...gives me something to work on, another amazing facet of this journey! :D

sorry but yes you do need to hit your macros like saying you don't need a compass to sail the seas, you don't need to hit the numbers direct but you should be close to your macros
