How often do you splurge?

I plan on one splurge day a month. I'm wondering what everyone else does and if there is a limit to the amount of calories you go over. I exercise and usually go over 500-800 calories on splurge day. Is this too much?

I stay under my goal M-F and maintain on the weekends. To answer your question of going over too much, it all depends on how much you excersize. Do you do cardio to where you burn half those calories? Do you only lift? All in all I'd say 500-800 isn't going over too much. It's probably maintainence for you.0

Everyone's different. I don't consider it a splurge...I fit foods I love into my calories, and if I go over, then I work it out of my weekly deficit. People who do days like this will usually try to stick within maintenance, or do a weekly bank of exercise calories to use up that day.0

It depends on you and your goals.
Are you happy with your rate of loss while including these splurges? If yes, then you're fine. If no, then reassess the frequency.
The goal to sustaining this long term is creating a plan where you can be healthy and lose weight while still living your life. I think an occasional splurge is part of a sustainable plan.0 -
I usually bank lots of calories under the week, due to lots of exercise.
I could have a splurge day every Sunday if I wanted, but I tend to eat just my running calories for that day and am fine with it . I ate two dinners two weeks ago though hehe....0 -
What is a splurge? Going over your daily goal? Weekly goal?
I eat about 2500-3000 calories every Saturday whether I'm in a deficit or maintenance (this is well above my maintenance calories), but I always meet my weekly goal.0 -
Aside from binging which I do usually around my period I don't splurge too often since I make sure the foods I like always fit in my calories.
Now I did go yesterday for lunch & eat at a new ice cream shop that opened last month & got four scoops & since no calories are provided I just considered that an extra treat & didn't count any calories.

Once a month or so. At one point, my splurge took me to around maintenance. At this point, it would take me a little over. I'll probably still be in a deficit for the week, just a smaller one.0

I splurge, as in going over my calories, on holidays and special occasions (vacations, trips to hometown where we always stop at the hometown ice cream shoppe, etc.) I'm not too restrictive with what I eat on a daily basis, though, so I don't really feel the urge to splurge too often.0

I eat at maintenance once or twice a week. And once or twice a month I'll eat above maintenance. Most days I try to eat under my calories though, to make up for the social events where I don't track my calories (potlucks with friends, dinner with my parents or the inlaws)0

I stay within my goal generally, and as long as any "splurge" days are within my current maintenance, I don't bother to count them, but they end up about once a week by the look of my diary. Mostly Mondays/Tuesdays - wth? I guess on the weekends I am too active to have time to eat much and "catch up" at te start of the work week.0

Within my goal and logging Monday to Friday. Eat sensibly and still workout on Saturday and Sunday, but don't log (I am usually away where there's no internet access so there's no choice!). I usually end up starting Monday 1 to 1.5 lb heavier than the Friday, but from one Friday to another, I still lose 1-2 lbs.0

I typically stay in goal...even with my "splurge" Saturday I am in my weekly goal...0

I "splurge" every day -as long as the food I want fits within my calorie and macro goals, then I'll eat it. The only two days where I am a bit more lax about my eating is my birthday and Christmas (and even then, I pre-log and don't consider it a free-for-all).
Tomorrow's my birthday, and I'm in the process of planning out my dinner. 900-calorie dinner, here I come (and I should be able to stay within my 1700 maintenance calories by having a lighter breakfast and lunch)!0 -
I splurge ever weekend. I don't log but the amount varies. Basically, I just relax and eat as if I were not trying to lose weight every weekend. Some times I go over my TDEE, others I am under. I don't care. I just relax and don't think about calories. I am pretty strict throughout the workweek.0

It depends. Last month I splurged due to special events. This month, I'm trying not to but finding it difficult not to splurge even just a little. This month I've got to spend most nights at work - so there is a lot of take out. So depending on where they get take out from, it's not always healthy. But I think being able to splurge maybe twice a month would be better than just once.0

A splurge for me is going over my daily goal.

And so where does that put you as far as the week is concerned? Do you eat so much that you entirely wipe out your deficit, or do you eat so that 1 lb becomes .5?0 -

I might burn half the calories by doing cardio but not always.

Once a month. Bottle of wine, ice cream, pizza/burgers or something amazing. That tends to hold me til the next month. I probably go over by... Oh, who knows. It doesn't cause and lasting damage though.0

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments. It sounds like I can stick to what I'm doing since it seems to be working. I'm still working on self control and building a healthy palate. Not sure I could trust myself to go over my calories more than once a month.0

I feel like I splurged today, I made a cheeseburger and even had a couple squares of chocolate, while still ending my day under by over 100 calories.
I do know what you're saying though. You just have to decide what you're comfortable with. One day with an extra 500-800 calories won't set you back too far, if at all. Personally, I would have some sort of game-plan for the day so i didn't go too crazy, but I have self-control issues sometimes.0 -
I think I splurged today. Gonna end the day about 200 over, even though I got some excellent exercise in (hill running) and ate lots of fruits and veggies. Just had to have dinner with the girlfriend and kids at Chilis.0
