Hi All :)
Just wanted to come and see what your advise is about olives??
I'm loving them at the moment and have been buying them as part of a Greek salad.
My friend said that are good but try to stay away from the feta.
I have been having them every evening with my salads and wanted to know if I'm being naughty or good.
Many thanks

there is no such thing as bad/good food...get rid of those labels and you will be happier...oh and feta is the bomb...if you are having a greek salad and no feta..what's the point

Stop labeling foods good and bad. Everything in moderation.

Eat the olives. Don't eat the olives. Your choice.

    Olives are very nutritious, yes.
They are also a good source of healthy fats.

Feta is tasty and pretty nutritious as well.

I have black olives and feta in my greek salad all the time. Adds about 100 calories combined.
Greek salad without olives and feta is just salad.

cheers! Don't fear the fats. Especially the healthy fats. They do so much for you.

Next up: add avocado to your diet!

Why would your friend want to you avoid feta?

Olives are great. Olive oil is great. Provided you aren't over consuming olives from a calorie perspective (for your daily needs) the only thing to keep in mind is they, like pickles, are a significant source of sodium. For many of us this won't be an issue at all.

I eat olives all the time, as a snack or added to everything from salads, canned tuna/salmon, omelettes, sauces, you name it.

I eat olives and feta all the time on my salad. Olive have some fat but it's the good kind. Feta isn't "bad" for you. You don't need much feta in a greek salad anyways to make it tasty. I would do it, and just pay attention to your macros.

Also, maybe your friend said to stay away from feta because it can be sold unpasteurized? It will say on the package whether or not it was pasteurized but unless you are pregnant, I wouldn't worry about that.

Just log it all accurately. That's the only way to know if olives or feta or any food is pushing you too high on calories or a particular macronutrient. If they are and you really enjoy them, trim back something else to make it fit.

Why would you eat a greek salad without feta? Your friend needs to shut her mouth! :) There is no point to a greek salad without feta and olives. If you can add some gyro meat too I'm in. Yummy yummy yummy!

Whenever I think of feta I imagine goats gamboling up the Tyrolean mountainsides.

I wonder this as well. But going along with your other comment about the sodium, if that is the issue, I say have the feta and then just rinse your olives lightly to remove some of the brine. That will eliminate some added sodium.

I think your geography might be a little bit off there ;)
Feta is one of the reasons I want to get a couple of goats. Also, just because of the goats.
