I've never socialized in any fitness program I've been in, but I can imagine making friends here can have some benefits. I've been up and down with my weight, but I'm really determined to lose the weight this time. Overall, I'm mostly content with my life (good career path, great romantic relationship, amazing family), but social anxiety is a huge problem for me. Meeting new people in a social setting is terrifying to me. I don't have many friends because of that. I think my weight plays a part into my social anxiety. Often, I feel self-conscious about the way I look and want to flee from the prospect of meeting someone new and making a fool of myself.
Social anxiety also feeds into stress-eating. It's a cycle. That's something I'm starting to stop. I want to take control of my habits and my anxiety.
