Hello....I'm new with the community, but I've decided to come here for advice with adding weights to my exercise regimen. I usually do 3 days a week with cardio ( jogging 2 miles or elliptical 40 minutes) Today I started doing free weights 5 lbs with squats, lunges, and arm moves. I really want to make this apart if my fitness plan. I have lost roughly 40 lbs with MFP, but I would like to lose more weight and change my body completely. I'm 5'3 and weight 180 lbs. Can someone please give advice where to start with weights?

Well done on the weight loss so far :) as you're new to lifting a full body work out 3 times a week concentrating on compound exercises would be best. If you don't have much experience with strength training you may want to look at some programs. Mark Ripptoe's Starting Strength is excellent (don't be intimidated that it uses barbell's) or New Rules of Lifting For Women is another fantastic program. Both books are available on Amazon.

Regarding weights, you want to select a novice program with scheduled weight progression. A good program will have regular weight increases, how much you can expect to increase these weights over the period of the program, what to do when you stall, etc.

Good programs (that I know) are:
-Strong Curves - program for women who want good butts and a full body workout
-Strong Lifts / Starting Strength - full body barbell program 3x a week, increases strength. No you won't get bulky, women lack testosterone which makes men build muscles.
-C25K - "Couch to 5K" running program designed for the novice who never ran before, can graduate to "Couch to 10K"

Keep eating at a deficit. You will build strength slowly and surely.
