International 1/2 Marathon

Have any of you ever traveled out of the country to run a 1/2. This wont be my first 1/2 or my first time travelling out of the country, just my first time doing both at the same time. I am flying to Dublin Friday July 31st for business and the Rock N Roll 1/2 is tht Sunday. So I figure why not, I looking to have a good time maybe stop for some pics and Im not concerned about time or pace.
What do I need to keep in mind or add to my to-do list?
I'm landing at 6:55 AM on Saturday which gives me plenty of time to clear customs and hit the expo. Even with a delay.
My hotel is .5 a mile from the start so I can walk in there in the morning.
I'm bringing my own gels and drinking water throughout my flight. Staying hydrated concerns me more than the jet lag. I also don't suffer from GI issues but I am bringing some granola bars I know I can tolerate before the race.
I can fit my shoes and race day clothes in my laptop bag which I carry on.
I don't normally run in compression sleeves but is this something I should consider?
Give me the good, the bad and the ugly that can happen.
If you are questioning my running base I average 20 miles a week long runs between 6 and 10 miles. This will be my second 1/2 this year and I be "trained" in 7 weeks. This is all about the experience for me.
