Will my newly discovered wings go away?

42 year old female, 40+ pounds down since early March, 45 left to lose. My arms are now wing-like. Yuck! Hoping some of this is fat and will be lost. Extra skin is ugly but I can deal with it, as long as the wings decrease.

If I can't lose them than I'd better damn well learn how to fly!

Oh - there was a question. Anyone with my stats lose their wings? (5'2" tall)

    Are you lifting?

I am 90+ pounds down...never had any wings because I have been lifting weights pretty much the whole time I've been losing weight. I have a tiny bit of looseness/softness of skin, but that is it.

I've read that salt scrubs can help to encourage blood flow and aid in tightening skin. I don't know if this is really true...but it feels good and doesn't hurt anything. I make my own inexpensive scrubs at home.

I wish I was lifting! I've got pretty serious cervical issues and just cannot lift heavy. But I lift "light" and hope that helps... It's pretty grim at the moment.

This depends entirely upon genetics (well, age, too). What's happening is you're getting smaller overall, but your skin and the attached subcutaneous fat is staying pretty much the same because it's stretched to accommodate your old size, and your genetics and your over-forty-ness won't let it compensate. Your outside layers just aren't elastic enough to keep up with the rest of your shrinkage. Creams and scrubs smell nice, feel good and are a lovely indulgence, but they won't help. Love your wings. They're yours to keep. Lifting weights probably wouldn't have compensated in your case (assuming you weren't lifting weights all along, as the other poster surmised) unless the muscle mass you have added makes your arms equivalent in circumference to what they were before you started losing fat, thus keeping your existing skin "full". You will read TONS of articles about ways to get rid of your wings. And you will find a few articles by medical professionals that will tell you that if you're over a certain age and you are fair complected, none of the gimmicks will work. The few medical professionals are not in it to make money. Everyone else is. Be smart, be healthy, love your body. It's the only one you'll ever have. :))

How saggy does it need to be to be considered wings. I have a little sag in the arms but nothing I would call wings.

Lost around the 110 pound mark

Genetics, age, and amount of weight lost. I've lost 150lbs ish, I'm 36, lifted weights since right at the beginning of my weight loss (actually even before) and I have definite wings. But I also have nicely defined shoulders and biceps. You win some, you lose some. My arms were huge and blobby before, I'll take how they look now although I don't think these wings are going anywhere.

I want purty wings .. wiv feathers .. link John Travolta had in that stupid film

apart from that - resistance work - talk to your medical team about what is appropriate - genetics and time

Possibly. Sometimes skin snaps back. Sometimes, it doesn't. Slowing down weight loss can help to alleviate saggy skin a bit. If genetics doesn't help in the loose skin/wing department, your other options are to deal with them (which it sounds like you're okay with!) or having the additional skin removed eventually.
