Almond Butter

I don't like Almond butter because it just has too much texture for me. Especially the fresh ground almond butter. But I like how nutritious it is, and I want to benefit from it... so I've started adding it into my Almond milk Ice cream (vegan)

Mix the almond butter (I use 30g) with whatever toppings or sauces you want to add. I usually spoon in the almond butter and then squeeze in my Non-Dairy Chocolate Sauce (from Santa Cruz Organic) and mix until thoroughly combined.

Then top it off with the Non-Dairy or Dairy Ice cream of your choice and Mix the hell out of it!

It goes really well with Cookies & Cream Almond Milk Ice cream (from So Delicious) and it doesn't alter the flavor of the ice cream. If anything it just makes it taste a little richer. I'm not big on nutty desserts so if it altered it drastically I would not be a fan.

Doing this totally ups the nutrition content of your dessert. Almond butter contains: Vitamin E, Potassium, Magnesium, Iron, Calcium and Phosphorus. Almonds are also a good source of protein and fiber. Almonds are also high in monounsaturated fat (the good fat) so it will keep you satisfied.

Well I thought it might be of some interest to other MFP members looking to bump up the nutrition, but feel free to delete this if it doesn't belong here.

I don't usually like normal almond butter, either! BUT! Have you tried Barney Butter? It is amazing.

Never really looked at almond butter at all. Would it be at all similar to peanut butter? Sounds like it'd be a lot more nutritious so I'll probably look into seeing if I can possibly afford it.

It's the same principle, only it's made from almonds. The problem with it for me is the texture, especially with fresh ground almond butter. It's always just little crunchy bits in it that annoy me, but then I'm not a fan of "crunchy" peanut butter either (smooth all the way).

The only thing I've really been able to use it for is things like smoothies where you break it down even more while blending it. But now that I've found out I can use it in my almond milk ice cream I like it a lot more.

I buy almond and chia butter and it's way better than peanut better health and taste wise. I also get walnut/cashew butter which is nice but I like the almond best.

On my P90 food plan, I can either use peanut butter or almond butter. Thanks for the tip!

I just tried almond butter yesterday. I found that I don't like it plain, but it's good when combined with other foods (celery, apple sticks, etc.) I LOVE peanut butter so almond butter is a bit of a change. But I'm learning to like it!

Sounds like it would be awesome with ice cream - thanks for the tip :)

Found some almond butter at my local grocery store. They grind it fresh from roasted almonds right in the store. But at $8/pound, I couldn't really afford it. They also grind NO SALT peanut butter (Contents? Roasted peanuts. Period.) for half that price. About the same as the "all natural" peanut butters full of salt. Tasted GREAT and I'm afraid I binged a bit on it. Ended up over on my calories and fat today as a result.....

Barney's butter has a similar texture to cashew butter - it's thinner than peanut butter, but not gritty like other almond butters, and pretty sticky. I liked it a lot.
