I have recently been placed on a low carb-60 grams a day, high protein - 140 grams a day, and moderate fat of 60-70 grams a day. I have using whey, but I heard it is not for weight loss use. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any information.

Protein isn't "for" anything except supplementing your protein intake. Whey is fine. WPI is about as low cal and low carb as you'll get from protein.

Overconsumption of calories causes weight gain, not one specific food or macronutrient

There is nothing you eat and lose weight by eating it. I would expect that if you were placed on a low carb diet - high protein diet for health reasons, the idea would be to change what you eat to include more protein, not to eat whatever you were eating in smaller amounts and then add supplements. So perhaps you should start by figuring out why you cannot meet protein goals with diet?

That's fine... And whey is fine. You said you'd heard it's not "for weight loss" - this person is fooling you, or themselves. Keep using it if it's what works for you!

Thanks bunches. Because I use it once or twice a day to get to my 140 grams of protein. Whew. Thanks for your insight.

I buy an unflavoured whey and add the flavouring I want. Flavoured varieties can taste nice but the amount of flavouring reduces the protein content, which at least for me... is what I was eating it for in the first place

aggelikik. I am missing most of back molars, so eating "Meat" is hard for me, so to have meat for protein to meet the protein goal is really hard. I have no problem with eggs, cottage cheese, etc.

PS, protein shakes or smoothies were recommended by my doc and nutritionist.

Didn't they give any specific recommendations on brands, content etc? If not, whey protein is fine, no reason to stress about it. I second the unflavoured protein and just mixing it with whatever you wish. Adding it in smoothing sounds like a good idea if looking for something soft.
