OP - consider making your own rules. You don't need to follow someone else's.

Thank you for your advice. And to everyone else! Maybe I need to just do more research and find out what works for me... It's just hard when everyone and everything has a different claim. I don't have time to experiment (8 months to the wedding!) but I have some time.

I think you can develop intolerances from avoiding foods - so no dairy for a month can give a pretty big negative reaction on reintroduction. Doesn't mean you're intolerant to dairy though!

That doesn't make any sense! Do you think if you cut out apples for a month you'd be sensitive when you reintroduce them? If you're eating something everyday that is mildly irritating to your system, then reintroduce it it will cause symptoms that are easier to notice. I eliminated eggs because I was nursing my daughter and she had an egg allergy. Eggs tend to be somewhat allergenic. When I started eating them over a year later, I had no issues. I also cut out dairy and gluten (being paleo) and when I have gluten it gives me IBS symptoms. I had IBS for years and the doctors just say eat more fibre... That did nothing. But cutting out gluten did. Dairy seems to be ok for me too. Had I never cut out gluten, I would have just labelled my issues as IBS, but it was actually a gluten intolerance.

So after eliminating dairy, then eating it, I ended up sick with severe reactions, pain and. discomfort. I started to eat it in small amounts regularly and now get none of those symptoms - i dont eat excessive amounts, but definitely don't need to avoid it.

Actually, it does. Ask any Asian person who's done it about cultivating lactose TOLERANCE and how gradually increasing dairy exposure allows them to tolerate lactose, at least to some extent. But if they just started to eat a big bowl of ice cream from default intolerant state...WATCH OUT.

If you go on a low-fat diet for a while, if you have a fatty meal, most people will have very rapid and DRAMATIC repercussions. :) Silly vegans try to say it's proof that meat is toxic.

OP, just because people disagree doesn't mean that people aren't hucksters and shysters. Whole 30 is a scam. All detoxes are a scam. If you had toxins, you'd be put on a dialysis machine. This kind of thinking is wholly unhealthy.
