Complimentary gym diet

I recently joined a gym and I'm already loving it!

Ideally I want to tone up and build a bit of muscle.

Problem is, I have no idea what type of diet would compliment this goal. I've been told eating too little would hinder any muscle gain.

If anyone has any tips or meal plans, that would be great! (p.s I'm a vegetarian)

Thanks in advance :)

To gain muscle, you'll need to eat in total more calories than you burn, and lift heavy things to encourage muscle building. A 250 calorie surplus is a good number to aim for

In this case, what you eat is of less importance than how much you eat. Meet your minimum fat and protein requirements, and fill in the rest of your calories with whatever you can to get to your goal.
