Swimming? Good alternative?

I've been trying to find an alternative to running. Although I love running it puts a lot of stress on my back and my chest (I'm well endowed and no sports bra has helped)
Is swimming laps a good alternative to jogging? Are there good alternatives to running?

You can burn a similar number of calories swimming as you do jogging, and you work more muscles and get strengthening exercise in the process. What's not to like. I swim laps 3 x a week and love it! My muscles are becoming much more defined and I have lost over 100 lb. so far.

In addition to swimming, you can jog in the water. My doctor has prohibited me from running, and I'm a terrible swimmer, but I love water jogging. I prefer deep water jogging, but it can be done in waist-deep water as well. It's a great work out to mix up with swimming if you really get into being in the pool.

Swimming is great, also try cycling and rowing. Nice thing about cycling is if you get a real bike to do it on, you get to have adventures out on the roads and call it "exercise"

Yesterday I got back in the pool for the first time in two years, and I'm a runner. Let me tell you. Grab a kickboard and do laps holding onto it and just using your legs. It's basically the same workout as running.

Kick sets are great to throw into a regular workout, but there isn't much value in doing only kick sets. Swimming is a fantastic full-body aerobic workout, might as well take advantage of that.

Swimming is probably the BEST alternative to running - in my humble opinion. Riding a bike and walking would probably put less stress and pull on your upper body (I started walking 45 minutes a day after I gave birth).
