how do you know where to set your carbs? i am maintaining now and just trying to lose some more body fat. i have my macros set to 40-30-30 and that gives me 140. i still seem to go over a lot. So many have told me that is too low as i am not trying to do low carb. Some say it's good... how do i know what number is good and where to set it?

    140 of carbs isn't low carb. 560 calories. 40% of 1400 ??

"Going over a lot" is a matter of self discipline and control. If you set the 40-30-30 for a reason then at least try to stick to it.

How many calories are you eating... how much do you weigh, how much body fat do you have? Otherwise, you just go into goals and chance the settings. Really you should aim for 1g of protein and .35g of fat per lb of lbm and the rest is carbs. No reason to do anything else unless you have a medical condition or it causes you to binge

i didn't mean 140 was low carb, i just ment i am not trying to do a low carb diet. i did 40-30-30 because so many suggested for me to do that, i have really NO idea when it comes to macros at all, all i knew is i needed to increase my protein as i started lifting, but some said i was eating too much carbs to lose body fat?

psulemon: i eat min 1400 cals up to 1600, i am 118 lbs and 5.2 ft. i have no idea how much body fat i have currently, i assume it was around 23%. my goal was 20%. i have a little tester at home and i find i never get the exact same spot twice, so my readings are always different. I have been goign more by photo's to see if there is any difference. I started lifting just over 2 months ago by doing CLX. so do i go to fat2fit to figure out my lean body mass?

and going by your amounts, it is about 91 grams of protein i need and 32 for fat? but i can't set it that way... i either have to go up in one or lower in another... silly mfp? the only way it is kinda close is set at : 50-30-20 and that gives me 175 carbs, 105 protein and 31 fat.

Just do a custom set up.. your macros are fine that you chose. At 115 just aim for about 95gs of protein. Just dont eat back your exercise calories if its figured in already which with clx it would seem it is already. Even if you want you could do 35/35/30 and be fine.

you may want to research you GOOD carbs versus your BAD carbs. Also I would never approach my set level, but always go under by planning the day and redoing what I need before I eat. There are a lot of BAD carbs that may be under or within your level that do not react the same with your body.

There is no such thing as bad carbs. You can lose weight eating cookies or whole grain foods. There can be trigger foods or foods that dont keep you full long but no carb is bad for you. I lose weight and maintain my muscle mass through out ky weight loss journey.
