I bought a 'jewellery' scale from ebay for really cheap (it was about £5, not sure what that would be in dollars). It is accurate, and small enough I can fit it in my bag so I can weigh on the go. It does usually mean finding a cup or something to place on top so I can weigh 'bigger' things, but that usually isn't a problem :)

It has seriously been a life changer in my weight loss journey; I was one of those who couldn't understand why i wasn't losing weight, until I actually started weighing everything and seeing for myself how inaccurate guesstimating or relying on packets was!

This food scale works good for us: Ounces or Grams, zeroes out nicely:

I got that one last year after a move. Hated it. It defaults to Lb/Oz when it turns on, and the unit button is on the bottom. Tossed it and went back to my old Taylor after I unpacked.

Digital scale. Grams. Tare function. Flat top. Ability to weight a few lbs but still be accurate for 1 or 2 gram loads (f.e. you want to be able to weigh a bit of oil for your dressing; but also to add up all the ingredients for a large recipe that weighs several lbs). Controls not on the same surface that you weight on. By preference not touch-screen so you can operate with wet fingers. Dual power or standard battery sizes a plus.

I have had many foodscales. My newest, and absolute favorite is the Ozeri Epicurean. It is the most beautiful piece of equipment in my entire kitchen. Its that gorgeous! Accuracy is dead-on. Love that it has lit-up display. Cant think of a single negative.

I measure all my liquids with cups and tablespoons and everything else with my digital scale. I also have a glass surface flat one and that measures in grams and ounces. I use it constantly.

I got a Taylor-brand at Target for $30 that does all the important stuff plus weighs up to 11 pounds. I would get one with a flat top so I can put my empty plate on top then load it up, taring before adding different foods. Make sure the surface is long enough to hold a plate AND read the display. So many scales are short from front to back and a plate would block the display.

A after reading through the forums, it seems like a food scale will be a good investment. Which do you recommend and why?

Any digital that weighs in grams and ounces.
