ive been binging on and off for a month. some of the binges have been really bad like close to 5000 kcals but mostly they've been between 3000-5000. During that month I had some days where I was healthy and exercised but I think in total I pigged out over like 20 days! Last month I was 11st 12lb. I weighed today and I'm 12st 1lb! I thought I'd have gained at least 5-7 pounds plus water retention. This week I've gotten back on track, exercising a lot and eating sensibly, even having ice cream in moderation. I would have thought I'd be like 12st 7lb including the water retention. I weighed during the month and I think I shot up to 12st 5lb!

The question is how come the gain isn't so bad despite having some really big pig out days and eating so much junk? I've been quite sedentary too and only went to the gym twice last week.

It happens. I think the body takes time to 'register' these things. When you've been eating fairly well and suddenly you binge, usually its not out of the blue. I binged massively on food during travel for about 3 weeks or so - literally massive 4 meals a day, sweets everyday from bakeries, delis, etc - and when I came back I had lost....3kg. I reckon all that walking probably helped, and the amount of food so randomly threw my body off.

Prior to that I had been in somewhat of a plateau - I was eating fairly well everyday except weekend cheat meals which weren't binges, exercising steadily without fail. Weight loss was trickling - gain a little, lose a little, so it was like X3kg, then X3.8kg, then X4kg, then X3.7kg...it was frustrating, as I weighed myself every end of the week first thing in the morning.

I came back from travels and all that eating and boom the weight started dropping off like crazy when I got back in my routine.

It happened again the second time I travelled. So I took it as that the body gets used to the work out / food routine you've est and slows down your metabolism to slow the weight loss so you don't waste away in case you're in a desert or something. Once you start to increase your food intake and mix up your movements into somewhat more random high and low patterns it resets.

I now do that. I lost more weight, then I happened to injure my foot while exercising and spent 2 weeks switching out my workouts to a different type of workout, and changing up my food portions/types. Lost more weight. Now I've just spent a week eating with increased calories by eating out with friends and not worrying too much about what I'm eating to a reasonable degree, and erm had a little too many sweet items today (1 sweet red bean dumpling, 4 small coconut and glutinuous rice balls, 1 large sweet melon pancake, after a meal of rice cooked in coconut milk and chilli - CARB BLOW OUT).

But it's okay because its the first time in more than 6 months I've touched those items. And I'm back into the normal routine from day after.

Keep at your normal weight loss routine, and you will see the results. Else increase the load a little and then back it down to normal, and the weight ought to drop off.
