excercise suggestions not focused on knees and heels

The past two weeks I made my excercise plans too intense. I was running, doing 30DS and strength training. Most of the excercises were hard on my knees and heels. I'm 5'3 and 227 lbls.

I have a heel spur, so doctor told me to slow down and not put too much pressure on my feet. I also bought nice running shoes and insoles to protect my feet from shock, but it is still hard to run, climb stairs (or even going downstairs), or bike. Also squats are hard on my knees.

I hate to stay inactive, done that all my life and now I feel guilty sitting all the time. Do you have suggestions for excercises that burn calories while gives my knees and heels some rest?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, beginners usually try to do too much when they first begin and end up injured.

Can't you bicycle, do elliptical, or walk on an incline on the treadmill?

I had some knee pain from squatting until i adjusted my form a little, for one thing people usually buckle their knees inwards when squatting as opposed to keeping their knees inline with their toes. A second thing is not sitting back enough when squatting will make the knees go far forward past the toe which can place stress on the knee.

You can also do bodyweight boxsquats where you squat down on a bench or chair and back up. You can also keep their arms pointed straight out in front of you to help your balance and make it easier.

You can also go here and find exercises for your legs (quads, hamstrings) to try out different exercises to see which ones do not bother your knees: http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/
  • Yoga is a great exercise that is easy on all the joints! It may not be as high calorie burning as running, but you will definitely get a sweat going and build some strength as well. Not to mention, you will stretch out all those bad spots!
