New to MFP and weight loss

My name is Holly and I am 20 years old, 5'4" tall, and I have always been fat. I grew up fat. I always scraped by in gym class. I hated it. I felt like cardio was the devil's work. And what the heck is a calorie or a serving size? These numbers on boxes aren't for real people! Or so I thought.
As I grew through my teen years, I got taller, but also wider. Once I stopped growing verically, I kept growing horizontally! I never weighed myself. It wasn't important to me. At my heaviest I found out I was 230 lbs. I had gone to the doctor and she didn't mention it. I got home and wondered just how bad that weight was. I looked at a BMI calculator and realized that if I kept it up, I would be morbidly obese! Morbidly? I didn't feel fat... but I realized I had to do something. I started about 3 months ago with a different app, but just switched to MFP. I even made a big step and joined a gym 2 weeks ago! Turns out I do like exercise when it is on my terms.
I now weigh 209 but have a long way to go still until my weight would be considered healthy. I hope that posting on these forums will keep me in check. I lurked for a few days before joining, and you all seem like a nice, yet no nonsense bunch.

Hey Holly, my name's Janelle. I'm 5'2 so I can understand the being vertically challenged thing. My highest weight was 240 and i'm now at 205 (weigh in days tomorrow ) I was small until I graduated high school than one thing led to another and bam, I was big. I love MFP because of the counting the calories and tracking everything. I also recently joined a gym, so seems we have a lot in common. If you want feel free to add me and we can support each other!0

The fact that you "no longer" weigh 230, shows that you're doin something right!
You've gone over 20 lbs. "IN REVERSE" on the scale!! Awareness of the situation is key! & the 1st step. Once you've decided to do something about it, keep focused & set small goals. *21* lbs is a huge accomplishment that cant be ignored. Once you accomplish your small goal, it'll give you more fuel to hit the next one.
Keep in mind that "THE PAST DOESN'T EQUAL THE FUTURE" If you fall off the wagon one day, no worries! Tomorrow's a new day to hit refresh.0 -
Thank you all so much for the encouragement. I'm not much of a social butterfly but I really should learn to make friends on here, haha.0
