Hi MFPers! I'm just curious why are so many programs 12 weeks long? What is the magic formula behind '12'? Is that supposed to be how long it takes to form a habit? I appreciate any feedback!
Thank you!
Thank you!

I think it's just so you see the most results (not 100%, but it's my best guess)*. There are workout programs that range from 21 days - until you progress out of it.
Examples:
21 days - 21 Day Fix, etc
30 days - 30 day shred, Walk It off in 30 (? I think that's the name), Rockin' Body, etc
60 days - Insanity Max:30, etc
90 days - XTrainFit at Home 90 day program, P90x
Until you progress - Stronglifts 5x5, Ice Cream Fitness 5x5, etc
*Let me rephrase that, because obviously the most results would come from continuing your fitness beyond the plan. A plan that ends say 12 weeks from now (for some) can be easier to commit to mentally than something that goes on longer. Most workout programs say that if you follow the program for XX days/weeks plus diet that you will see results. So a program that says you can see results in as little as 30 days is going to seem more appealing than one that takes a year or more.0
