I'm about to start learning how to use poles and Nordic Walk. My doctor recommended it over jogging for me due to previous injuries (and chronic tendonitis) Supposedly it can burn up to 46% more calories that just walking by itself. Does anyone know what I should log it as? It isn't in the database.

You can create your own exercises in the cardio section.

Your best bet is to use a heart rate monitor to get a reasonable estimate of the actual calories you're burning and use those numbers for your diary.

Do you have a nordic walking group in your area? If you do it's a great way to learn the proper technique. A friend of mine is a coach (I don't nordic walk - I'm a runner) and he's made similar assertions about the fitness benefits of nordic walking vs regular walking (if you have a race walking group in your are that could be a great alternative too)

    Have fun!

Thanks for the recommendation! I believe there are a couple of walking clubs in my city and am looking into when they get together. Might as well do it properly lol and you're right, there are a lot of health benefits to doing this exercise. My doctor positively lit up when he heard that I was going to start as opposed to the face he made when I asked him about jogging:happy:

Not that there's anything wrong with jogging. Don't get me wrong, I'm jealous of people who can run and miss doing it but not for me at this time or the foreseeable future according to the doctors sigh
