Hi!
I am an Italian boy. I'm 22 and I study Electrical Engineering. My favourite hobby is running (I race in 10k and half marathon races (38'-1h21' as current PBs)). I'm 6'2, 154lbs. My goal, in order to improve my running performance and because I like skinny people too, is to get down to 147lbs. The problem is that I am very undisciplinated about nutrition. Some days I binge (not only exceeding in quantity but with very bad quality of food), then I skip meals and so on. This situation has been lasting for more than one year now...
I can't stand this situation any longer. I hate my life. I'm desperate.
What can I do? I decide to subscribe on MFP in order to try a possible remedy. Do you think it could work?
Have you any other suggestions?
Thanks
With love,
Marco

You are 6'2" and 154lbs. You do not need to lose weight. 7lbs will not make your life any better.
I STRONGLY suggest you seek counseling.0 -
At your height your weight is quite slim- why do you want to lose another 7 pounds? Will it really make a difference overall in your appearance? You also would be quite fit to run 10K and half marathons. I'm not sure of your motivation. Maybe talk yourself into getting rid of that scale- the number is just a number- it does not define you and I doubt if another seven pounds will make you feel better about yourself. Work on being good to yourself- loving yourself enough to eat things that are good for you and if you eat other things that you don't consider healthy- just eat them in moderation. Eat what you like and don't be overly critical of yourself if you have something that you consider to be "not nutritious". Work on self love.0

Hi Marco,
You have come to the right place if you want support, these people are fab, and have really helped me out a lot!
I'm not going to pretend I am an expert on nutrition, but I wanted to share some things with you that have helped me.
You need to log all of your food, and log it accurately. Weigh everything on a scale,-even if a packet says 'this thing is 50 calories', weigh it, work out how many calories are in 100g of that and do the math to find out exactly how much it weighs-packets can sometimes be off and some of the entries in MFP are off too (silly little things can make a difference, like which country you are buying the product from).
One of the biggest mistakes people make when first starting is underestimating the amount they are actually eating.
It sounds like you have a bit of a problem figuring out an eating routine-I need routine, or I am exactly the same. When I first started out, I pre-planned everything. I made a spreadsheet and recorded on it what I would eat, and at what time, and how many calories, fat, carbs and protein it had in it. It really helped me in the beginning, until I found my self-control, and now I don't need the spreadsheet or to make sure I eat at certain times because my body has got used to the routine. You could do three big meals a day with a couple of little snacks, or you could go for five, small meals a day (personally how I eat). That way you should feel consistently satisfied and shouldn't overeat or binge because you're hungry from not having eaten for so long.
As for the type of food you eat, when it comes to weight loss, it doesn't really matter what you eat, so long as you are burning more than you eat. However, to be healthy and ensure that our bodies are getting all of the nutrients that they need, it is a good idea to try and eat healthier foods. MFP sets your 'macros' for you-so it tells you what percentage of carbs, protein and fat you should eat a day. I don't know what the best ratio would be for you, but try what MFP recommends, and if it doesn't suit you, then change it! I personally lowered my carbs and upped my protein, but that is only because I find that eating too many carbs makes me feel quite bloated which is really uncomfortable. I eat foods that correspond with my macros, so I have plenty of grilled meat (high in protein, low in carbs) and veggies (contains more carbs but also loads of vitamins). But of course you can have treats! I usually have chocolate or cake or cookies every day (I have literally just finished eating a large double chocolate chip cookie!) so long as you eat them in moderation and stay under your calorie limit for the day.
Good luck

I agree. It sounds like you have a very unhealthy relationship with food. This app could help you find balance or it could make it worse. I suggest seeking some kind of professional help. Losing weight isn't going to solve your problem.0

You are young, in your prime, run long distances, you are slim, and you want to be a little slimmer. Why hate your life? You are currently in the low-normal weight range for your height. 147 lbs is not that much different. Instead of concentrating on your weight or your out-of-control moments, why not concentrate on eating great meals and not skipping? You can use MFP to log your meals. I also suggest if you binge again to log all that food too. You need to understand exactly what you are taking in. It may not be as bad as you think.
I suspect the moments of bingeing are brought on because you have been over-restrictive in the past.0 -

This. I hope you find the help that you need.0 -
pre-planning your food, logging your meals the night before will help control binging and quality of food.0

Bravo Marco on asking for help with this! I agree with the others, your weight does not sound like it's the problem. You must be in fantastic shape to be running half marathons.
Striving for a number on the scale is not the answer. I think MFP could help you to pay more attention to the kinds of food you are eating, and that's always a good thing. But there's no need to beat yourself up over a day here and there where you overindulge. If this kind of thinking is causing you anxiety you might want to seek counseling or try talking to a friend you trust.0 -
Marco, I would log your diet and exercise for a week or two and discuss it with your doctor or a nutritionist. MFP can't tell you what to eat and when for your lifestyle. I'm not a runner, but I would assume a healthier diet is better than a 7lb weight loss. I agree with the people above about counseling. We are all trying to get to a goal weight on here, but your weight should never make you hate your life. Please keep your chin up and be good to your body foremost.0
