Couch 2 5K and foot pain

I'm currently in week 5 of Couch 2 5K. While I haven't noticed a huge weight loss or anything, it has helped my metabolism some and I'm slowly but surely increasing my cardio.
Since Week 1 I've had foot pain in both feet. Yes, I have top of the line running shoes. I have a medium/high arch and have compensated with specially fitted shoes and shoe inserts to help cushion my feet as much as possible.
The pain is more on the outside of my feet, along the sides than anything. No heel pain, no toe pain. I can run say 5 mins and my feet feel like they're on fire. But then I walk 3 min and the pain slowly dies down.
I've yet to find anything that can help me with this foot pain. And for the record, I'm not running hard or fast. I run mostly on a gravel trail. I've tried paved track and I still get the same pain.
Anyone with similar foot pain?

I would get rid of the inserts personally, if the pain is on the outside of the foot. Maybe they are overcompansating for whatever arch problem there is.0

I've had pain after weeks of training, but never had it right off the bat. Have you had your form analyzed? If so, maybe have it checked again with your shoes and inserts...0

Do you get any blisters? The statement "my feet feel like they're on fire" sounds like friction to me.0

I'd try a short run with a different pair of shoes and/or without the inserts. See if you can narrow it down to either of those being the culprit or ruling them out. If your feet don't hurt (as much) with different shoes you may want to get re-fitted.0

I agree to try without the inserts. I tried some once to help with a case of plantar faciitis and the inserts just about killed my feet.0

I have had zero blisters as I have the wick type of socks, so I've been lucky in that regard.
It's odd, after a 30 minute run session, the pain in the feet goes away. I had my feet analyzed at the New Balance store and they said I tended to walk on the sides of my feet. I try adjusting my gait as I run, but it doesn't seem to do much. If it weren't for the pain coming and going on my feet, I'd be running faster for sure.
Are there any decent foot stretches?0 -
What's your foot strike, OP?0
