Happy Anniversary to me!
On June 22, 2013 I logged my first entry into myfitnesspal and I have only missed about 10 days in the last 2 years. My first log in I was down to 242 lbs but I was 245lbs when I decided to get serious about my weight loss and now 2 years later I am 174lbs. I am down to a 33 waist from 42, down to a 42 chest from 48, down to a 15 ½ neck from 18. More importantly my BP is 119/70 and my resting heart rate is 58. I went from doing nothing in terms of exercise to now spinning, aerobics, weights, running, in fact I just ran my first 10K last month and training for a half marathon next year….I even do Yoga once a week too. I am now 174lbs with a BMI of 26.5 from 37.8, 2 years ago. My wife who was not overweight at all, joined me in my journey and she is toned down 25lbs and does all the above things with me as well – so awesome when you get support at home.
When people ask me what I did, a lot of people are expecting me to mention a certain diet, a certain program, a pill, a potion etc.,. I just say I started using myfitnesspal, logged in what I ate all the time and after a few months I learned how to eat! I figured out what foods triggered my weight gain and ate less of it, I don’t drink pop anymore, I don’t need the second serving of food, I don’t go to all you can eat buffets anymore, I don’t have my coffee with 18% cream/2 sugars anymore, etc.,. I eat more wisely and then I discovered that proper exercise can help in losing weight when coupled with a sensible diet, the weight just fell off. I know I am making it sound easy but there have and continue to be struggles, I have hit a few walls and had to periodically adjust but I did not give up.
In these adjustment periods I discovered that there is no one way to lose weight, we are all different, culture and genetics play a huge part and that is why what works for one person will not necessarily work for another and what may work for a while may not continue to work. In my early days of losing weight I was inspired by all your stories so please keep it up.
