Adding HIIT workouts

Wanting to add a little bit of HIIT workouts into my strength training. Until now, I never really looked up what HIIT really meant. What fast, but effective HIIT workouts do you know of? Is 10min of 20sec fast running and 40sec normal walking good enough?

I do HIIT on the treadmill. I run for about 30 minutes but for 20 of those minutes I do HIIT .. 30 seconds sprint then one minute jog then repeat about 10-15 times in those 20 minutes. I also do this on the rowing machine and skipping. You'll see a big difference if you do HIIT :)

FitnessBlender has some HIIT routines, but I prefer darbee.com .

Perfect way to start HIIT. 30 on/60 off.

I do the exact same thing on the stationary bike my problem is how to log it I have been just logging it as medium intensity for however long I go but I dont think that is very accurate.

HIIT on a cardio glide is what I usually do.

It is brutal after about 8 cycles.

At a certain point in cardio fitness, some intensity is required to raise the bar. HIIT is a good way to bring some in gradually.

I do 10 minutes of HIIT every time I go to my indoor bootcamp workouts. We do about 1.5-2 minutes on a cardio strider, then two consecutive sets of cardio bodyweight exercises between 15-20 reps each, sometimes using light 10-15 pound weights, and sometimes incorporating resistance bands for upper body. We do three cycles of all this in 10 minutes. It kicks butt.

I usually tell people to do tabata drills:

Pick an exercise (burpees, mountain climbers, etc.).
    20 seconds HARD
    10 seconds rest
Repeat for 8 rounds (4 min total)

I used to rotate burpees and high knees in this format. Talk about a killer workout. The key really is to go hard, like "I want to die" kind of hard.

This is a very hard HIIT that I would not suggest to someone who hasn't done the easier ratios before this one.
