5 stone plus to lose

How did I let myself get to this weight? !! I so wish I'd noticed and paid more attention when I was 1 or 2 stone over weight!

I get myself all geared up and motivated and manage to lose 7lbs over the course of 2 or 3 weeks then something happens and I fall off the wagon (slimmingworld and have just decided to log on here again to be doubly attacking the fat! ).

I seem to just be yoyo dieting, lose 3lbs, put 2 back on and so on.
5 stone just really seems to shadow the small progress I am making and slow me down for a few weeks until I can get the right mindset back.

Anyone else have this problem?
Any positive and helpful tips?

I yoyo too, but it's usually my own fault. I'll be good all week then ruin it on the weekend.
I think you need to make some goals that you can reach along the way. 5 stone (even without the plus) is a big target so maybe aim for 1 stone, then 2 etc.

Decide that you are going to loose weight and that falling off the wagon isn't going to keep you happy for the long term. This is something you are going to do or you aren't. I would suggest not keeping food that doesn't fit your new life plan in the house. That way if you want it you have to go get it. I don't have any delusions that I will never eat pizza again. I have a date with that bacon, chili cheeseburger that i love so much. When I loose 10 pounds I am taking my aunt out to eat and I'm going to have that burger. Then when i loose another 10 pounds I will go back and have it again or maybe we'll go get pizza. So I'm looking to get something special maybe one meal a month (or longer) Instead of thinking I need to give myself something to keep me going every other day or week.

Loosing weight and being healthy is going to be for the rest of your life. Start treating it that way.

Setting unreasonable goals seems to be the downfall of a lot of people. You must first understand 5 stone is a lot and will take time.

I will always preach mental strength is what will make or break somebodies journey. Everything you do is within your grasp. Bad things happen around us all the time, a lot of people use it as an excuse to eat what they've been craving whilst in a deficit. (probably gonna get hate for saying that :P)

Everything is a choice. If you cheat, you cheat no-one but yourself. To me mental health is sort of like lifting. The more you work a certain muscle, the stronger it gets. I see the mind as the same. The more you exert mental strength, the stronger the mind gets. Losing weight has to be the priority.

I've found one thing that really helped me was the realisation that food doesn't make me happy. Sure, I love eating a dominoes or a greggs, who doesn't? But it's only a few minutes of satisfaction and if had on top of an already full diary a complete waste of a day and sometimes even a step back. Are the few minutes of satisfaction really worth that?

That being said, don't fully restrict yourself from all those foods or you may fail. I know I'm never going to fit a 16" meat feast with stuffed crust into my calories for the day. It just won't happen! I know I can, however, fit a 10" one into my calories, or I could share with friends and fit it into my calories. This means I get my meat feast goodness and as long as it fits into my calories I am still on track, haven't compromised myself at all and I can feel guilt free :)

Yes, I think I need to set mini targets for myself so I don't get overwhelmed by the 5 stone ultimate goal...and treat myself to something (clothes etc) when I reach it.
