Hi guys. I'm a 44 year old male, looking to start weight training. My main goal is to lose fat and gain a modest amount of muscle. Can any of you point me in the direction of a good book that will help me pull together a diet and exercise plan? Thanks.

To lose fat, you need to be in a caloric deficit. To gain muscle, you need to be in a caloric surplus (generally speaking).
Some weightlifting plans for beginners are;- Stronglifts 5x5
- ICF 5x5
- New Rules of Lifting For Women
- Strong Curves
Regarding diet, just hit your macros/micros.0 -
Not sure i'd recommend Strong Curves and New Rules of Lifting For Women to you, for obvious reasons. But New Rules of Lifting for Life is a good book for your age bracket. Check it out.
Keep a slight calorie deficit and you'll end up looking more muscular as the fat layer shrinks, even though you won't bulk up.

I will second the New rules for lifting range, the original is great as is supercharged. Have not looked at life yet0
