ab wheel is great, looks like it should be a gimmick along with the shake weight etc but it's actually very effective.

Roll outs (you can use a fixed barbell if you don't have a wheel) are a great core exercise.0
-
Do you think I should start off with the barbell first?0
-
No that just a suggestion if people didn't have an ab wheel available to them0

Set yourself up where when you roll out you do it up against a wall or something that will stop you from over extending. Dependent upon how strong your lower back is, you might want to try to keep a mild arch in your back until you build up your core strength.0

I have arthritis in my back, and it hurts to use the ab roller.0

This is by far the best ab exercise I've found. Unlike crunches, it's much less taxing on your lower back and neck, and the movement itself is very helpful in developing overall core strength.
One thing to note, though- while it's incredibly effective, this movement can be difficult at first. Don't worry if you can only do a few reps at first, your strength should increase over time.0 -
Thanks for the great tips0

it's not any easier quiet honestly- and an ab wheel is like 10 bucks and much more transportable.
As someone said- looks like it should be a gimmick- but it's honestly a hell acrazy ab activation workout- nice thing is you can do it from a knee position or you can do it in a full plank.
But yes- a barbell will work as well.0 -
Thank you, picking up one later0

About every 10 years the Ab Wheel comes back on the market with a new overhaul. My Dad has one from the 1950s and it is a great little tool.0

You can start with a stability ball first.

Thanks! Love the tips0

The first time I tried it, I was showing off to my martial arts instructor and did waaaayyy too many (like 50 or so)and went all the way out. The next day I could barely move because my abs hurt so much. So tip, don't overdo it the first time.0

Ha Too late lol, My abs are killing me.0

I have "Core Wheels" which are like an ab roller but each hand can move independently. Highly effective and pretty difficult but I would absolutely recommend adding them in!0

It's definitely a great exercise. I love the ab wheel. It is easy to over-do it though, because when you're doing them it doesn't really feel like it's that strenuous, but the next day (at least personally) after I've done 3 sets of 15 or so, by abs kill. Which, means I worked them hard. But it can be painful, like Petervz01 said.0

Yes I agree. I'm also going to looking into Core Wheels. Maybe I should perfect the Ab wheel before moving onto Core wheels0
