Pasta makes me sleepy and then hungrier, so when I have it, I have it in the evening. I would add avocado and cottage cheese to the tomatoes and feta just to fill me up a little more, but it's your lunch, eat what you. Neither is "bad", but I think I might get tired of pasta every day. OMG, I never thought I'd say that, LOL.

Seajolly, why would you say that Option 2 is healther? (I need to build up my Feta cheese protection stategy)

Because pasta isn't healthy. It's carbs - no other real nutritional value. I'd much prefer tomato sauce and cheese over fresh steamed veggies like broccoli, peas, green beans, peppers, etc.

Pasta is a carb. Your body needs carbs. Carbs provide energy. Fats aren't bad for you. Your body needs fats. You need both (along with protein) daily as apart of your overall calories. Option 2 would not fill me up. Option 1 in my opinion would be a better meal and would keep me full longer. I'd probably add chicken though as protein is very important.

Like some of the posters in this thread, when I eat pasta, I am hungry again too soon after eating it.

I feel dumber for reading all the comments about how pasta is bad for you.

Good thing I'm not dumb, and I realize that pasta is not bad for you (unless you are allergic or something).

I really do wish the hatred of carbs would just die. But then again, the 1980s "dietary fat is evil" fad still exists too.

Option 2 is definitely healthier. This is based mostly on the fact that pasta is bad for you.

Why is pasta "bad" for you? Any food is fine if it's eaten in moderation.

I think the worst thing about pasta is after so many years of thinking it was a healthy option (I spent my teenage girl years eating pasta and cheese every lunch hour), I had a very skewed sense of what a reasonable amount of it to eat was. A portion of pasta, especially if like me you eat your main meal in the evening, would be very small for lunch. Not a tupperware tub full like most people bring to work.

Waiting for people to tell me this is SO OBVIOUS. But I promise you there are plenty of people who couldn't even guess the calories in a bowl of pasta. It's even trickier as you have dry/cooked weight to consider.

I get a sort of joy out of weighing out my spaghetti. It tastes better when you can let yourself enjoy it knowing exactly what you're eating.

I also think it is an unanswerable question. I would find neither of the choices * amazing*. I try not to eat too much pasta ( personal preference), I don't love pesto and the added cheese makes it a high calorie /fat choice that us lacking in protein that for ME wouldn't cut it as a lunch.

The second choice, if using a lower fast feta, would be a better choice in my opinion, for ME. But really, I wouldn't want to eat tomato and feta salad on a daily basis.

Neither of those really work for me. Pasta does not fill me up at all and is essentially worthless to me as "food", and 100g is too much feta cheese for me. If I *had* to choose between only those options, it would be #2. #2 could be a good meal with the addition of more veggies (cucumber, lettuce, etc.) and some protein (tuna).

No-one is asking any of you which lunch YOU would prefer, or whether you would eat any of them.....simply which is more nutritious on a daily basis.

If you like pasta and don't want to add a protein source to the first lunch, try eating some of the alternative pastas and see if you like them. I found soybean pasta (20 grams of protein for the same calories as a normal pasta serving) and black bean pasta (25 g protein). I haven't tried them yet, but I'm excited to, because I like pasta but limit it in order to make more room for protein since I get plenty of carbs from my typical food choices.
