Trying to be as active as possible this summer and get out of the gym a bit on non lifting days. So far, I've been (or am planning) :

1. Hiking (done this a few time since May)
2. Kayaking (going today actually!)
3. White water rafting
4. Waterfall canyoneering
5. Biking

Any more ideas to add to the list?

Thanks! (and if any active MFPers want to be friends, friend me :) )

Rock climbing? I'm not big into water activities (I have a kayak, but rarely use it) and don't have a bike, though I hike a lot.

But since you seem to like water, what about swimming? Trail running?

Trail running! That's a good idea- I'm kind of a terrible runner, but that sounds fun. And DUH swimming, I must be having some brain fog because I completely forgot about swimming.

I'm a little nervous about rock climbing but maybe at the end of the summer once I get a bit stronger.

Geocaching - You use a GPS to find hidden containers. It can bring you places to hike you might not have gone to otherwise.

Hunting and fishing - Also a good chance to explore different and beautiful places. In addition success can mean a source of lean protein.

    Walking
    Roller blading
    Skateboarding
    scootering (totally a word)
    Stand up paddleboard
    wind surfing
    sailing
    base jumping
    bungee jumping
    skydiving
    basketball
    kickball
    soccer
    softball
    lacrosse
    field hockey
    rugby

you're in NYC, I'm sure you could find outside fitness classes held in a park.

I suggest meetup.com (plus the app)

Fishing would be fun, I don't know if I could mentally hunt to be honest, I'm not against it, I just don't think I can do it myself!

If you have never tried a stand up paddle board, I highly recommend it. Great core workout. Just be mindful if you plan to use it on a creek or anywhere there is a current. It can be very tough to paddle against the current, even when sitting down because it is flat, unlike a kayak, which generally has a keel.

We actually have stand up paddleboard classes here in Brooklyn, I will definitely look into it!

You may hunt with a camera as well as a rifle.

I don't suggest seeking into old/abandoned places since it's probably illegal (you live in NY after all) and building may no longer be structurally sound.

But you could "hunt" for flora & fauna.
It gets you outside and it's a useful skill being able to identify these, especially since you've already mentioned camping.

    There's also outside ropes courses.
    tennis
    golf
if you don't have a full time job, be a day camp counselor?

You may want to look into rope courses. We just went to a science museum in NC, and they just recently put in a ropes course. Although I am in no way ready for it personally, it looked like it would be a great workout and a lot of fun.

DO IT. (Well, BASE typically takes extensive skydiving experience and specialized training, but...you gotta start somewhere!)

@Dnarules and @lishie_rebooted Rope courses sounds super fun, I'll check those out.

@lishie_rebooted I unfortunately have a full time corporate job, otherwise doing something like that would be my dream : )

And @cheshirecatastrophe I know, I want to- maybe for my next birthday (30!) I'll get over it and do it
