Has anyone that is out of shape tried a mud run? I just signed up for the warrior dash in October. My goal is to lose about 30 more pounds by then and be around 235 lbs (I'm 5'9", started at 302 lbs in April). Does anyone have any training suggestions?

There are people who walk them, so fitness is really a matter of what you want, you should be able to finish. What surprised me is how hard the crawls were, and they would have been infinitely easier with padding on my knees. Clothing is really key. You will have grit everywhere. Ideally you will have clothing you can throw away at the end but good enough to keep grit out of your shoes and places that chafe.

Wife blew her knee out on the first obstacle on her first (and last) mud run. Jumped down off the hood of a car (not that high, and she's not that big). Just be careful about the jumps, and just tripping/twisting ankles.

Go to their website and find the list of obstacles, then try to simulate them at a local playground.
Also follow the C25K program to develop running endurance.
Also follow a good strength training program (NROL, Nerd Fitness, personal trainer, etc).
    Report back in October. :+1:

I did a Warrior Dash in May with my wife. My wife is out of shape, but she managed to do all the obstacles except the wall climb. Most mud runs if you are not in a competitive wave you can skip any obstacle that you are unable to complete.

There were people of all size and levels of fitness there, so you don't need to worry about being the only out of shape person there. Also since a new wave starts every fifteen minutes no one can tell i you are slow.

As far as training work on strength, especially upper body which will help with climbing obstacles. MFP had a blog article a while back with an obstacle course training plan. Also several of the major mud run websites have training plans and tips.
