Hello all :)

I seriously debated whether or not I'd post this but then decided meh - I will! I've been on MFP for just 2 weeks now. I wasn't looking for a site to help me with my weight loss but came across this on a parenting site. Thought I'd check it out and very happy that I did.

Prior to joining, I was already trying to improve my diet and weight. I had my first child 6 months ago and this has changed my figure so I've gained weight in places I didn't used to. I was 14lb heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight after I'd had him and pre-pregnancy I was already overweight and slowly trying to lose weight through eating in moderation. I already knew that no restrictive diet plans could help me after developing an underactive thyroid - this is what had led to my pre-pregnancy weight gain and has made the post-pregnancy loss very tricky. My doctor has been helping me to improve my symptoms through diet and I lost 6lb mainly through cleaner eating (note: not entirely clean!).

However, the losses were inconsistent and I wasn't sure what I was doing 'right' when they came and 'wrong' when I gained. I would also still get serious cravings for chocolate and could inhale the stuff. This is where MFP came in. In my first 3 days I started learning about BMR and TDEE, eating well and the impact of exercise. I don't want to mess up my metabolism any further as it's already crazy slow because of my thyroid. Within those 3 days, I got the hang of it.

So now it's 2 weeks later and I am fully confident that MFP (that is, mainly the members and their fantastic tips and advice) is going to be the way forward for a better way of eating, sustained weight loss and improved fitness. These are my very little first victories:

- 3lb lost
- 3/4" loss on my waist
- 3/4" loss on my hips
- I went to eat a bar of chocolate today and could only manage 4 squares before feeling queasy

Thanks to all of you who contribute recipes, fitness tips, success stories, and especially the easy to read info on BMR, TDEE etc as this has been so helpful. I now feel confident that I WILL not only lose this weight, but be fitter and healthier too.

Good luck to the rest of you!
