C25K

Hi guys I'm starting on C25K and would love friends on here that are following the same sort of programme.
I did struggle with day one today. I'm using the NHS app and did 6 out of the 8 60 second runs but walked for the last 2. I'm putting this down to the fact that I'm not very fit and I forgot to bring water which I really needed by the end of run 6.
How are you all coping on the C25K? I was advised that it is one of the best programmes to get you into running, which I was really good at around 13 years ago and now my daughter loves to run and I want to be able to join her and turn it into a mother daughter thing.
Please feel free to add me reneelisa1987 it would be great to be on your journey with you. I have just under 50 pounds to loose.

I finished C25K, after failing to try to get into running in the past. I'm now up to running 4.5 mile runs, 3-4 days a week. If you stick with it, it really does teach you to run! But it can be really tough at times (I thought I'd die when I ran my first 5 minutes straight). Stick with it, and don't be afraid to repeat some weeks if you felt that they were too tough or you struggled to finish them. Good luck!!0

Congratulations on starting! That's the hardest step.
Here's a great group for support and advice. It's also very active, which is helpful:

While running, can you speak a short sentence aloud? If not, maybe try slowing down a little bit. That may help you run the 8 segments.
I graduated C25K a little over 2 years ago and am still running 3x a week. I've never been a runner, so I was very pleased with the program.0 -
Stick to it! I thought I would die at first. Lol. I questioned my ability every day (still do sometimes) but i have now finished a 10k (no walk breaks!) and I'm training for a half marathon0

I just graduated last week, and I now love running! Don't feel bad if you have to repeat a day or week. That's not unusual, and it's better to take it slowly than to rush.0

I'm starting week six of C25k. It is tough at times, but it's totally worth it. There have been weeks in the program that I thought I did not think I was ready for and I was surprised when I was able to push through. Just take it one step at a time and don't underestimate your progress.0

Thanks everyone your comments make me feel much better about not completing the day0

Don't stress about it. The important part was you didn't stop after the six, you just kept walking. That's what got me through. When I started C25K, I was so out of shape I couldn't do one 60 second run!! Do what you can, walk through the rest, and you'll get there!0 -
I am at week 4 in the C25K program, for the 2nd time, my ultimate goal is to get out there and moving!! Keep up the great work!0

I just finished week 3 day 1. I've also had to repeat days and take it slow. I've failed c25k in the past because I would push myself to stick to the exact program even if I knew I should repeat a day (or week). That made me dread my next run and I eventually gave up. This time I'm taking it slow, going at my own pace and actually look forward to the workouts. You can do it!0

i'm on day 3. so far, so good. But I jog really slowly. I walk the same speed as I jog- it's just that jogging has that extra bounce in the step. I do have to really think about jogging slowly - i naturally want to jog faster, but this is about endurance, not speed. I tried starting a few months ago, and I struggled through the first week, but was so sore, and it took so long to recover in between, that i gave up. About 20 lbs lighter and I feel more able to succeed now, and i could tell breathing was easier. Good luck to you! You can do it!0

There's nothing wrong with jogging slowly. My running pace is not much (if any) faster than my speed-walking pace. It's still good for you, and it's better (I gather) to start slow and build up steadily over time than to push really hard to go fast or long or fast-and-long too soon.

thank you everyone. hearing your stories has really put my mind at ease and made me feel better about going slow. with 46 pounds to loose I know if I push myself too hard I will either stop or hurt myself. hearing that you all did it at your own paces makes me feel much better. thank you again0
