does anyone have a fitness tracker that they have liked that does not need to be connected to a cimputer even at set up?

The Garmin devices can work with Android and Apple phones over bluetooth; Vivofit, Vivofit2, Vivosmart, Vivoactive.
Data from the app is reasonable and it integrates with MFP.
Suspect most of the rest do as well.0 -
Most will use bluetooth to sync with your phone as far as information, but when it comes to making changes, or firmware upgrades, most of them need a computer.0
