Swimming for Weight Loss

I know swimming has many benefits but am wondering how many of you use swimming laps/treading water at moderate pace, etc, as your primary aerobic workout. What are the pros and cons you've noticed? Any tips on how to increase the content and intensity and change up the routine in addition to the laps? Thanks in advance!

I swim as my primary aerobic activity! Right now it's just about upping my endurance and keeping my heartrate up, so my "routine" is generally X laps swimming, Y laps kicking only...and I'm working to increase X and decrease Y. I generally do sets of 10, with a short break in between for water. I'm just back in the water after a several moth hiatus so I'm back to 4 laps swimming, 1 kicking these days.0
