I have anxiety and depression. I've gained 30 pounds in the last year. I'm trying to retrain my brain. I use sugar (mainly candy) to get a dopamine high to make it through the day. I'm so frustrated. I just can't break the dependence. Any ideas???

Try the Mediterranean diet. You're so full you can't eat anymore and it is low calorie.

Stop buying it. If it isn't around you literally can't eat it. It doesn't mean stop eating it all together, but if it's not in the house you should want it less because you know it's not even there and then you can moderate it. Out of sight out of mind.

The first few days of cutting out high sugar foods is the hardest. Using my experience and experiences of close friends, the best advice I have is cold turkey for a week. By 3-4 days, the worst of cravings is usually over (from the experience of 7 of us), and by the end of the week you're brain and body feel so much better with more nutritious sugars (simple/complex carbs) that it's not so hard to say no to the instant sugar. Not that it still isn't hard. Everyone is different of course. But if you can really buckle down and just cut it out, even for a day, the other rewards your body gives (better endorphins) will begin to outweigh the instant sugar high.

Looked into the Mediterranean diet. Bought the groceries for a trial run this week.
