planing for kids

So my husband and I are planning on having children soon and I would like to have a healthy, balanced body to give any minime the best possible chance. Next to losing about 10 - 12 pounds other goals include quitting smoking and exercising. But looking around here and comparing to the milestones that some have mastered, it feels like my goals are minute. Support would be very welcome though.
