Hi,
I am 59, 5ft 9" and at the end of March 2015 I had a BUPA health check. At that check I asked if there was an App that I could use to help me manage my health. They suggested MyFitnessPal.
I started using the App on 6th April. To date I have not really done a lot of exercise but I have logged all I eat. I have never considered myself overweight and believed that I have always been around 11st 4lbs. At the time I started using this App I had been hovering around the 11st 7lbs mark. My key issue was developing love handles and chest muscle could be enhanced with fat and therefore started to look like man-boobs. I was also aware of more fat on my back than I was happy with.
Anyway how has my journey been? To start with I have cut out the occasional overdose of biscuits; am conscious of how bad Melton Mobary pies are for you, as are Pizza's, so the App has been great for avoiding high Calorie foods including things like Muller Fruit Corners which I like and could easily Scoff a couple.
Once I started counting the calories the weight started to fall off. I rarely hit the calorie target but I was reducing my intake of calories. Since I started on 6th April to date (3rd July) I have lost 17.25lbs and am still losing weight. Weight loss has been linear since I started and I have yet to get into any exercise regime. Love handles have more or less gone ribs are starting to be visible and general muscle definition has improved. My usual size 32" trousers are much looser. My actual chest and waist has reduced, chest 38" to 35" and waist from 34" to 30". I feel in the sort of shape I was in when I was playing football at school. The only thing I need to address now is my fitness! I am considering training for a marathon. I have done one before when I was about 40yrs old but had to walk 13 of the 26 miles due to a knee injury. The knee issue still exists so maybe the marathon may not be possible but I intend giving it a go.
I highly recommend this App for anyone to help understand weight control and assist in acheiving their goals. Good luck and stay focused.
