I grew up on a farm in North Dakota in the 70s and never had weights. None of my older siblings were into training so I had nothing to go on. My mom must have been embarrassed because I finally did get a set of weights one Christmas.
- Put rocks in two car tires and put a metal bar between them. That was my barbell.
- We used to stand up on empty 50 gallon barrels of treflon and log roll up and down the yard
with them. We couldn't get off of them to turn them around either.
- I welded plow lays together and strapped them to my feet. Did leg curls.
Anybody else do anything like this? Just curious.

Not me, but my dad filled cans with some sort of molten metal and duck taped them to a bar for a dumbbell. I remember them from when I was a very young child & he's still using them!0
