Calories while weight training

Hi there,
I'm a 5' 9" female, cw is ~175. I guess my goal weight is around 165-160 but I'm more about my size than my weight. I was between 160 and 165 before and was quite happy.

In the past I went to a bootcamp regularly that I loved but it closed last year and since then I've gained all the weight back that I'd lost. Currently I'm running, walking, and biking but want to add strength training to my cardio. I have the Strong Curves book that I want to work through but I'm curious how other people do their calorie count when they're strength training.

I'm currently at 1500/day with the 'loose one pound a week' goal but I've read you're not supposed to strength train with a calorie deficit. Is it best to change it to maintenance? I want to make sure I'm eating enough to support the extra work but don't want it to backfire and end up overeating. What do you all do for this?

There is no issue to strength training while on a deficit.
While on a deficit you will not gain a lot of muscle mass, however strength training while losing weight decreases the loss of muscle mass and results in your weight losses being mostly fat. Furthermore, after your done with losing weight the strength training could have lead to making you look more fit rather than "skinny fat".

The only thing to keep in mind is eat enough protein and take enough rest for your muscles to recover.
