You can't just "boost" your metabolism. You would need to add more muscle (extremely difficult in a deficit). Move more eat less for the weight loss part.0

Constant low intensity movement - it can make a huge difference.0

You can't boost your metabolism to a significant degree using legal substances (caffeine before exercise may help you exercise a bit harder)
You seem to be worried about your metabolism... well, dieting and eating less has a chance to actually result in a small metabolic slow down.
If your picture is recent, dieting to lose 5 lbs to become "toned" may not be the least potentially damaging way for you to achieve the "toned" look. The reason for that is because you are already at a normal weight.
Eating at maintenance and lifting weights is an alternative method to help you get toned. Choosing this option has the potential of providing a very small boost to your metabolism long term.
If you decide to generate a caloric deficit to lose weight (i.e. if you decide to diet instead of choosing to eat at maintenance and lift weights in order to become more toned), you have several ways of generating a caloric deficit.
You can eat less. Several of us seem to think that this may not be the best option available to you.
You can exercise more (you don't seem to be too keen on this).
OR, you can move more during the day!
If you currently take about 5000 to 6000 steps in a day (fairly average), increasing that to 12,000 without eating more will result in the gradual loss of fat.
If you are already active and say take 10,000 steps a day, increasing that to 15,000 or 20,00 will have the same effect. (steps a day in this context is a stand in for any activity/movement)0 -

Not enough to matter.
It could increase your daily calories burned up to 150 calories a day for lean individuals. Over 1 pound a month of weight loss. I think that's enough to matter. Especially if you only have a few pounds to lose.

You posted a study from 1989. That was a very long time ago. This must have been around the start of the caffeine, green tea movement.
The study warranted further study, therefore the findings were inconclusive. In my opinion, anytime "could" is used in a study, it means there is not enough evidence to provide a solid conclusion of the study.0 -

Ok OP i'll set it straight for you
THERE IS NO WAY TO BOOST YOUR METABOLISM.
Now go eat in a caloric deficit and lose your 5 pounds.
Quoted for truth.
Just eat less and throw out all the woo regarding weight loss.
I quit looking for the quick fixes when I realized there are none.0 -

Nope. 'Fraid not, because a quick fix is nothing but water. You don't lose actual fat on a quick fix.0 -

I once saw a different one that also showed an okay amount of increased calorie burn. Calling 100 mg every two hours for 12 hours "a commong amount" though... That's the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee each time.0 -

Well he is a writer and has drawn some hypotheses from the published evidence. One day someone might test them out, or devise a way to do so.

That seems like a lot of caffeine. Somebody posted a recent study saying that caffeine caused a slight increase in metabolism, but not enough to matter.0
