I haven't had any alcohol in over a month and I've been so motivated with eating clean and exercising. However next week I'm meant to be going out with a friend, and we've planned this night for so long, but I'm so worried its going to affect my progress! When I go out I usually drink Vodka, or a few smirnoff double black cans. We usually dance for hours and hours obviously, and I never eat any snacks while drinking, or never get any food after the night out. But what do you think I should do? Any tips?
Thanks so much!

Have the drinks...you've been doing well and staying on track. Plus all the dancing. It'll either burn them off, or level your cals out. IMO.0

Go and enjoy your night out!! One night with a few alcoholic drinks isn't going to ruin anything.0

Go and enjoy your night out! I drink once a week and have still been doing pretty well, so 1 night for you will not hurt!
Have a great time, dance, drink and be merry :drinker:0 -
Really... Unless you're planning. Weeklong bender, it's not a big deal. I'm going to really go out on a limb here and tell you it's okay to have some snacks as well! Have fun:)0

The only reason you should have your vodkas is if it will lead to you having that kebab at the end of the night.
If you can afford the calories, do it!0 -
vodka and club soda is pretty low calorie. i'd say stick with that. mixers and wine coolers can contain a lot of sugar, which if you are trying to watch, aren't the best choices. another good choice is wine, red being a bit better then white.
eat something before going out drinking, so you aren't tempted to snack during, or binge eat after. also, maybe alternate drinks with a glass of water.0 -
Ah thanks so much for replying every one definitely feel so much better about it now0

just want to share in an experience.
after a few months of working out and watching what i ate, i had a party at my house. exercised big that morning, and didn't eat a lot so i could have room for booze and for party food. big mistake. i got so freaking drunk, that not only did i wake up drunk the next morning... i woke up drunk that afternoon.0 -
In May it was 5 years of my new life during the 5 years there have been 3 events 1 dinner on vacation one house party and a New Years party that I drank it was one night and the next day I was back to eating and exercising so unless you are really afraid that this will completely undo your new lifestyle go and enjoy yourself.
for me this is a new way of living and in life there are parties weddings events you will go and enjoy if you do this you can enjoy some relief if not you might like all diets that fail you just wait till your "diet" is over a formula to fail0 -

hahaha love this. bet you regretted that.
but did you feel as though you kind of went back a step with your eating/training after that?0 -

well, i learned what NOT to do. i learned that on nights i party or go out, i have to be a little more moderate in my drinking, and i have to eat!! can't putt aside too many calories for booze. and if i go over on booze, no big deal.
and the day after one of the most horrible hang overs in my life, i went right back to it.
oh, and more recently i had a night out with friends. stayed out drinking, got home late, and slept until noon. had a long run scheduled that day, of 6 miles. i really really didn't want to go do it, but i went for a run. i was fighting myself the whole time, and i didn't want to run 6 miles.
so i didn't.
i ran 7 instead.0 -
You could alternate one drink then a water, but I agree, go and have some drinks, one night won't break you, just get back on track the next day. Have fun!0

You're too good! When I wake up on Sunday morning I'll definitely think of you & go do a workout. Thanks heaps for the inspiration0 -
Just enjoy yourself! We all deserve a break every once in a while.
Like everyone else has said there's going to be dancing involved which will mean calories burned!
Things like this are part of LIFE, and the idea here is to incorporate healthy eating and diet into your daily life THIS INCLUDES GOING OUT WITH FRIENDS.
Honestly one night will not affect your progress that much. It's drinking alcohol in excess and over a number of days that will affect it.
Go out and enjoy yourself and stop worrying :drinker:0 -
rage on young grasshopper.... whats the point of life if you choose not to live it... kna meen yo?0

Go and enjoy yourself (but have vodka and a slimline mixer rather than cans - fewer calories!). Eat beforehand though - something like wholemeal pasta would be good.0

Clearly I don't need to go AA, if you read the post properly it says I haven't drank alcohol in over a month & I'm going to have a night out with friends.0 -
